CM Vijay Names Tamil Nadu’s Ruling Alliance; Emphasizes Secularism and Social Justice

Date:

Chief Minister Vijay announced today that the ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu, led by the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been named the “Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance,” reflecting the party’s principles of secularism and social justice.

In addition to TVK and the Congress, the alliance includes the MDMK, IUML, and VCK. TVK will lead this alliance. Explaining how the name was decided, VCK leader SS Balaji stated that it was the Chief Minister’s idea. He noted that the name makes it clear to everyone that the alliance will oppose the BJP and fascist forces. Will TVK join the I.N.D.I.A. bloc?
He said, “There has been criticism that TVK holds a soft stance towards the BJP, but the situation will now become clear.” When asked if TVK would join the opposition I.N.D.I.A. alliance, Balaji said that would happen once TVK has Members of Parliament; currently, they have no MPs. He also mentioned that the alliance’s name was decided unanimously and would be based on the principles of secularism and social justice. He stated, “A meeting was held today under the leadership of Chief Minister Vijay to finalize the alliance’s name. The names of candidates for the by-elections will be announced tomorrow.”

What did the Congress say about the alliance?
Speaking to the media, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief Manickam Tagore said there are no ideological differences between TVK and the Congress, and that TVK would support the alliance’s Prime Ministerial candidate at the appropriate time.

Recently, the Congress had become uncomfortable with the growing demands to make Vijay the Prime Minister. Congress minister Rajesh Kumar had made it clear that such a campaign would make it difficult for Congress ministers to remain in the TVK-led government.
