Major Reshuffle in Punjab Police: 70 Inspectors Promoted to DSP; Salary Rises from ₹56,000 to ₹1.77 Lakh

Date:

The government has provided significant relief to Punjab Police Inspectors who had been awaiting promotion for a long time. According to a notification issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, a total of 70 Inspectors—drawn from both the District Cadre and the Armed Cadre—have been promoted to the rank of DSP.

These officers have been promoted to Pay Level-18 of the Punjab Police Service, which carries a pay scale ranging from ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500. This promotion has been granted based on the recommendations made by the Departmental Promotion Committee on May 23, 2025. The notification clarifies that the promoted officers have been appointed to the post of DSP in accordance with their standing in the seniority list and established rules.

50 Officers from District Cadre and 20 from Armed Cadre
The list of promoted officers includes 50 Inspectors from the District Cadre and 20 from the Armed Cadre. It includes several officers who had been serving as Inspectors for a long period.

This government decision not only grants these officers a higher rank but also results in a significant increase in their pay scale. The notification also outlines a key condition regarding the promotion. Under this order, the promotion of the concerned officers will take effect immediately, though the promotion will remain valid for a period of one year.

**Will help fill vacant DSP posts**
In the Punjab Police, officers at the DSP level hold critical responsibilities related to law and order, crime investigation, and police administration. Consequently, promoting 70 inspectors to the rank of DSP will help the department increase the availability of experienced officers at the field level. The government has issued this order following approval from the competent authority.
