Two gangsters, who had arrived at the Jalandhar court complex for a hearing on Wednesday, attempted to flee upon seeing the police. To escape, both jumped from the roof of the court complex. The police pursued and apprehended them. One of the gangsters sustained a severe leg injury during the jump and has been admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
According to the police, the two youths had arrived at the court for a hearing regarding a different case. The police had received information that both accused—wanted in connection with a stone-pelting incident at the Devi Talab Temple complex about a month ago—were present in the court. A police team subsequently arrived to apprehend them. Upon spotting the police, both men tried to flee and jumped from the roof to escape. Interrogation to Follow Treatment
The police apprehended both individuals at the scene. The injured accused is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and will be interrogated once his treatment is complete. Police officials state that the full details of the case will become clear after interrogation, and action will be taken against the accused if the allegations are substantiated. The two have been identified as Aman and Fateh, although the police have not yet officially confirmed this. Gangs Clashed at Devi Talab Temple
About a month ago, members of the Fateh gang and the Bhana gang had confronted each other during a ‘Shukrana Yatra’ (thanksgiving procession) held at the Devi Talab Temple complex in the presence of Mayor Vineet Dheer. Following an argument, a scuffle broke out between the two groups, leading to an exchange of brick and stone pelting.
Jai Indra, the then-SHO of Basti Bawa Khel police station, had been transferred to Police Lines due to the failure to arrest the accused in that case. The police are now interrogating the two youths apprehended at the court to determine their connection to the temple stone-pelting incident and to ascertain what other criminal activities they have been involved in.
