Gold jewelry worth approx. ₹10 lakh purchased from Sarafa Bazaar jeweler; payment refused

Date:

A case has come to light involving the purchase of gold jewelry worth approximately ₹10 lakh from a jeweler in the ‘Sarafa Bazaar’ without making the payment. The accused gained the jeweler’s trust to acquire the gold ornaments but reneged on the payment when the time came, effectively misappropriating the amount.

Following an extensive investigation into a written complaint submitted to the Police Commissioner by the aggrieved jeweler, the police have registered a criminal case against the accused—Rishabh Garg and Kailash Rani—under serious charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust. In the official complaint, the victim, Bhupinder Singh, stated that he runs a jewelry shop in the Sarafa Bazaar. The accused, Rishabh Garg and Kailash Rani, visited his shop and purchased gold jewelry of their choice, with the total bill amounting to ₹9,97,720 (nine lakh ninety-seven thousand seven hundred and twenty rupees).

At the time of the purchase, the accused had given a firm assurance that they would pay the full amount shortly. When a considerable amount of time passed without the bill being settled, Bhupinder Singh demanded the payment. Initially, the accused stalled and made excuses to avoid paying. Later, they flatly refused to make the payment and misappropriated the entire sum with the intent of causing financial loss to the complainant. Faced with the prospect of losing his hard-earned money and jewelry worth lakhs, the victim approached senior police officials for redress.
