On the second day of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session, an uproar erupted in the House regarding the issue of holidays marking the birth anniversaries of Maharaja Hari Singh and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. A heated debate ensued between National Conference and BJP MLAs, accompanied by a round of mutual accusations. Amidst this, BJP members staged a walkout from the House while raising slogans against the government.
During the discussion, BJP MLA Devyani Rana stated that the holiday declared in the name of Maharaja Hari Singh would not be cancelled. Meanwhile, National Conference MLA Abdul Majid demanded the restoration of the holiday marking Sheikh Abdullah’s birth anniversary.
National Conference MLA Nazir Gurezi described Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as a popular leader of the people. He noted that Sheikh Abdullah had implemented land reforms. The debate between National Conference and BJP MLAs intensified over this issue.
