Muzaffarpur Police have achieved success in an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in districts bordering Uttar Pradesh and Nepal.
Acting on a tip-off, the Ahiyapur police conducted a raid at the Bairia Bus Stand and arrested an inter-district smuggler with 28.06 kilograms of cannabis. The arrested individual has been identified as Mithun Kumar, a resident of Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district.
**Cannabis recovered from the bag**
The police also recovered a mobile phone from the accused. A special team from the Ahiyapur police, formed under the instructions of the City SDPO-II, had received information that certain drug traffickers were preparing to travel to other states by bus. Subsequently, the police team cordoned off the Bairia Bus Stand premises and began checks. Upon seeing the police, a young man attempted to flee. Personnel acted swiftly, chased him down, and apprehended him. A search of his bag and packets yielded 28.06 kilograms of cannabis.
**Mobile phone under scrutiny**
Cyber DSP Himanshu Kumar stated that, under the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, continuous action is being taken across the district to control crime, maintain law and order, and combat the trafficking and sale of narcotics.
The mobile phone recovered from the arrested accused has been seized. The police’s technical cell is examining the device’s call records and WhatsApp chats.
Information is being gathered regarding the source of the cannabis consignment and the specific areas in and around Muzaffarpur where it was intended to be delivered.
Police suspect that the arrested accused may have links to an inter-state drug trafficking syndicate. Efforts are underway to identify other individuals connected to this network based on the ongoing investigation. Investigation into Smuggling Network
An FIR has been registered against the accused at the Ahiyapur police station under the NDPS Act. The police are interrogating him and are attempting to identify other cannabis smugglers active in the district based on the information provided by him.
