Four female wrestlers have approached the Sessions Court to challenge the acquittal of BJP leader and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a sexual harassment case.
The wrestlers have also challenged the acquittal of co-accused Vinod Tomar. Special Judge Digvinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Court issued a notice regarding the appeal on Monday and listed the matter for hearing on October 9.
Challenge to the trial court’s verdict
The four female wrestlers have filed an appeal against the trial court’s decision that acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar in the case.
The appeal questions the trial court’s verdict and the grounds cited therein. The trial court’s decision will now be reviewed during the hearing at the Sessions Court.
Next hearing on October 9
Special Judge Digvinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Court has issued a notice on the appeal filed by the wrestlers. The court has listed the matter for the next hearing on October 9. Delhi Police had filed the charge sheet.
Female wrestlers had leveled allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet in this matter, followed by proceedings in the Rouse Avenue Court. The trial court acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar of the charges on August 3. Subsequently, the four female wrestlers challenged this verdict in the Sessions Court.
