Sold his integrity for ₹5,000: Karnal Municipal Corporation clerk arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe
An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team caught a Municipal Corporation clerk red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5,000. The accused clerk, Gaurav Rana, had demanded the bribe to correct a name on a property ID.
On Tuesday morning, the accused clerk had asked the complainant to meet him near the city’s Old Bus Stand with the bribe money. When the complainant handed over the cash, the ACB team apprehended him.
According to the complainant, Kuldeep—a resident of Karnal—he had visited the Municipal Corporation to get an error in his property ID rectified. There, clerk Gaurav Rana demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 in exchange for fixing the issue. Kuldeep subsequently reported the matter to the ACB. The ACB formed a team and sent the complainant to the clerk on Tuesday; the clerk had asked him to come to the location near the bus stand.
As soon as the clerk put the bribe money into his pocket, the team immediately apprehended him and recovered the ₹5,000. ACB Inspector Arvind Kumar stated that the accused was first taken to the Municipal Corporation office.
