A severe collision occurred between a container truck and a dumper on the Aligarh Road in Khandauli at 5:30 AM on Saturday. Both vehicles caught fire; the dumper’s cleaner and a laborer—both residents of Dholpur—were trapped in the flames and burnt to death. Meanwhile, two vegetable vendors returning on a motorcycle after purchasing produce from the market were also caught in the accident and injured. One of them, Sheetu, saved the life of his companion, Sumit, by pulling him out from under the container where he had become trapped.
Four fire brigade units brought the blaze under control. Following the accident, a five-kilometer-long queue of vehicles formed on the Agra-Aligarh Highway, and traffic was disrupted for two hours.
The container driver, Shiva (a resident of Fatehabad), was transporting peas from Chandausi to Gujarat, while the dumper was heading towards Agra carrying stone dust. DCP (West Zone) Aditya confirmed that the dumper’s cleaner and a laborer died in the accident.
Container was transporting peas to Gujarat
The container driver, Shiva—a resident of Mubarakpur (Fatehabad police station area, Agra)—was en route from Chandausi to Gujarat with a load of peas. On Saturday morning, as the vehicle reached near the Khandauli Community Health Center (CHC), a speeding dumper coming from the opposite direction collided with the container. Both vehicles caught fire upon impact. Akash (25) and Karua (24) lost their lives in the fire. Both were identified as residents of Kodra Ka Pura village in the Mania police station area of Dholpur. Upon receiving news of the accident, the police arrived at the scene, retrieved the bodies, and sent them to the post-mortem house via an NHAI ambulance.
Vehicles engulfed in flames. **Motorcyclists returning after buying vegetables**
Sumit (23), son of Pritam Singh, and Sheetu (24), son of Diwan Singh—both residents of Nagla Jalim, Khandauli—were also caught in the accident while returning on a motorcycle after purchasing vegetables from the market. Both work as vegetable vendors. They were injured in the accident, and their motorcycle caught fire and was destroyed. Following the application of emergency brakes, motorcyclists traveling behind them collided with the container truck. Amidst the chaos, Sheetu managed to pull Sumit out from under the container. Police and fire brigade teams arrived at the scene.
The fire was so intense that it took four fire tenders nearly two hours of strenuous effort to bring it under control. By the time the fire was extinguished, long queues of vehicles had formed on both sides of the highway, resulting in a traffic jam stretching approximately five kilometers. After controlling the fire, the police removed the damaged vehicles and restored the flow of traffic. The police are investigating the cause of the accident. **Container driver Shiva’s quick thinking saves his life**
Khandauli. Container driver Shiva saved his own life through quick thinking. Shiva recounted that a dumper truck was approaching from the opposite direction at high speed; it appeared the dumper driver was not paying attention to the road ahead. Seeing the dumper speeding towards him, he immediately applied the emergency brakes and steered the container towards the cleaner’s side. He then jumped out of the vehicle. At that very moment, the dumper rammed violently into the driver’s side of the container. Both vehicles caught fire following the collision. According to Shiva, had he not applied the brakes in time, steered the container away, and jumped out, he could have lost his life. Due to the sudden application of emergency brakes, the motorcyclists following behind also collided with the container and sustained injuries.
