The Railways has approved the operation of two additional trains originating from Meerut and three passing through the city. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has sent a letter regarding this to Meerut MP Arun Govil.
Train No. 12216/12215 Garib Rath Express, which currently runs between Bandra Terminus and Delhi Sarai Rohilla, has now been extended to Haridwar via Meerut. This provides residents of Meerut with an additional train connection to Mumbai. Currently, three trains operate daily; of these, one runs twice a week, while another operates only once a week.
Approval has been granted for a new train (No. 14326/14325) running from Haridwar to Veraval. Veraval is located in the Somnath district of Gujarat, so this service will provide a direct train link to Somnath. Another train (No. 14328/14327) will operate to Okha, Gujarat. Regarding Khurja, two trains are currently running, whereas four used to operate previously; an additional train (No. 64573/64574) will now be introduced. Similarly, the Ministry of Railways has approved the operation of a new MEMU service (64580/64579) between Saharanpur and Meerut.
Demand for fast MEMU to Delhi and a train to Ambala
According to daily commuters, residents of Meerut currently need a high-speed MEMU train to Delhi, as the shuttle train is frequently delayed. Commuters had also submitted a request for train services to Ambala.
