Devendra Singh Parihar, Amethi. Women belonging to the district’s self-help groups (SHGs) are being given the opportunity to excel in efforts toward poverty alleviation. A plan has been devised to provide proper direction to the women involved in these groups. Under a pilot project, nine ‘producer groups’ have been selected; these groups will establish ventures dealing in vegetables, paneer (cottage cheese), and spices, thereby creating employment opportunities for themselves and others.
Each producer group will be provided with ₹1.5 lakh to ensure that a lack of funds does not hinder their work and allows them to move forward. Under the National Livelihood Mission, approximately 11,000 self-help groups have been formed in the district so far, involving over 150,000 women. The women associated with these groups are already engaged in various business activities. At the initiative of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), producer groups have been formed by combining three to four individual SHGs.
Financial support will be provided through these groups to prevent monetary constraints and enable the women to become self-reliant while also empowering others. These groups comprise women from SHGs in Amethi, Sangrampur, and Bhetua. Funds will be made available to them from the Livelihood Fund. Additionally, platforms will be provided periodically to showcase their finished products.
Continuous efforts are being made to engage women in self-employment. Funds from the Livelihood Fund will be allocated to the nine producer groups. Two groups will work on paneer production, two on vegetables, and the remaining ones on spices. This will yield economic benefits for them and enable them to make both themselves and others self-reliant. — Pooja Sahu, Chief Development Officer.
