The New Zealand cricket team’s troubles show no signs of abating following their T20 series defeat to India. Ahead of the ODI series, the team is grappling with a spate of injuries that has already sidelined several players. Now, another name has been added to the list of injured cricketers: Devon Conway.
Conway has been ruled out of the first match of the five-game ODI series against India. He collided with Matt Henry during a training session; the impact was significant enough to keep him out of the opening match. The collision occurred while both players were attempting to take a catch.
According to New Zealand Cricket, the two players collided while trying to catch the ball during practice on Tuesday. Both received immediate medical attention. Henry’s condition is being monitored, while Conway was taken to the hospital for treatment. In a statement, New Zealand Cricket said, “Both players are being monitored, and further updates regarding their participation in the ODI series against India will be provided in due course.” Henry is currently on the mend from an injury—the same issue that kept him out of the final three T20 matches against India. There is no word yet on his availability for the remainder of the ODI series, though the board has promised to provide updates on his status.
Previous setbacks
Earlier, New Zealand suffered a double blow when Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman were ruled out of the ODI series—an update shared by New Zealand Cricket on Monday. Neither player has fully recovered from their respective injuries, and as a result, they will not be part of the ODI series. Both players had also missed the T20 series due to these injuries.
