Gautam Adani, India’s richest man and Chairman of the Adani Group, plans to raise a loan of approximately $1.5 billion (over ₹14,000 crore) to expand into the data center sector. According to a Bloomberg report, sources familiar with the matter stated that AdaniConneX Private Limited—a joint venture with data center operator EdgeConneX—is in discussions with several lenders, including DBS Group Holdings Ltd., First Abu Dhabi Bank PJSC, and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc., to secure offshore funding. The sources shared this information on the condition of anonymity.
Leveraging its vast energy business, the Adani Group plans to invest approximately $100 billion in data centers and other digital infrastructure by 2035. Meanwhile, billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Group has also announced plans to invest up to $110 billion over the next seven years in AI-related infrastructure. Rapidly growing data center market: The data center market in India is witnessing rapid growth as major companies race to build the computing capacity required for AI and cloud services. The government estimates that this capacity will grow from approximately 1.57 gigawatts in August 2026 to around 8 gigawatts by 2030; meanwhile, according to local media reports, the country could attract investments of nearly $200 billion in this sector over the next seven to eight years. Sources also indicated that the Adani Group is in discussions with other lenders—such as Natixis SA, ING Bank NV, and Societe Generale SA—regarding new funding. They mentioned that talks concerning pricing are underway, and the loan could have a tenure of five to seven years. The terms have not yet been finalized.
