Uproar in Gorakhpur over teacher’s murder; family blocks road with body, demands Rs 1 crore compensation

Date:

Protesting the murder of a teacher, her family members and local villagers blocked the Bohabar-Nai Bazar main road near Khurhari village in the Jhangha area on Tuesday morning. The blockade, which began around 7:30 AM, lasted until 9:00 AM, disrupting traffic on the route for about an hour and a half.

Upon receiving the information, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jhangha arrived at the scene with a police contingent and moved the body to the side of the road. Although the police assured the family that action would be taken regarding their demands, the family members remained seated by the roadside with the body.

Ragini Vishwakarma, the teacher’s sister, submitted a memorandum addressed to the District Magistrate—handed over to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Circle Officer (CO)—demanding the arrest of the accused: Vijay Nishad, Shivkumar, Deendayal, and Vipin Nishad. The demands also include security for the family, compensation of Rs 1 crore, and a government job for one family member. Furthermore, they have called for ‘bulldozer action’ (demolition of properties) against the accused. The family asserts that the teacher was brutally murdered and that strict action must be taken against those responsible.

Demand for financial security for the family
The family is demanding financial assistance and security, alongside the immediate arrest of all named suspects. Police officials arrived at the site and assured the family of action, but the family remained firm on their demands. The SDM of Chauri Chaura is present at the scene, promising full support to the family and action against the accused, while also urging them to proceed with the last rites. The family, however, refuses to budge, stating that they will continue to sit by the roadside until their demands are met.

Teacher’s body found in Deoria district
The victim, 27-year-old Rani Vishwakarma—a resident of Bohabar Khurhuri in the Jhangha area—was a teacher at BL Central Academy in Brahmpur. She went to the school on October 31 to collect her salary and subsequently went missing. Later, his body was found in the Rudrapur Kotwali area of Deoria district.

A police investigation revealed that the school manager had called him over under the pretext of making a payment and took him along in his car. It is alleged that the manager strangled him to death inside the vehicle, placed the body in the trunk, and drove around with it for the entire day. By evening, he dumped the body in a deserted spot in the Rudrapur area and fled. A case of murder has been registered, and the Rudrapur police have taken the accused manager into custody.
