Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Ludhiana Gurpreet Bassi Gogi died on January 10 at around 11:30 pm. According to the police, Gogi was cleaning his pistol when suddenly a bullet was fired which passed through his temple.
On January 11, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had reached Gogi’s funeral. Today flowers were raised for Gogi at the Civil Lines crematorium. Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawa arrived mainly with the family.
Sandhawa said that Gogi had a lot of love for me. Whenever I passed through Ludhiana, he would always take me home. Gogi was a very outspoken and clean-hearted leader. People trusted him.
Gogi had joined AAP 3 years ago on January 11, 2022
Let us tell you that 3 years ago, on January 11, 2022, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi had joined the Aam Aadmi Party by saying goodbye to the Congress. 3 years ago, he was inducted into the Aam Aadmi Party by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. On the same date, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann now came to attend Gogi’s funeral.
Gogi started his new innings in the Aam Aadmi Party on 11 January 2022. Prior to this, Gogi served the Congress for 23 years. Gogi has been a councilor thrice and his wife Dr. Sukhchain Kaur Bassi has been a councilor once.
He was the head of the District Congress from 2014 to 2019
Gogi was also the head of the District Congress from 2014 to 2019. At the time of joining AAP, Gogi was the chairman of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation. Gogi wanted to contest the assembly elections for a long time. In the 2017 assembly elections too, he had claimed the ticket but he did not get the ticket. Gogi has been close to former CM Captain Amarinder Singh. It was the Captain who made Gogi the chairman of Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation.
At that time, Gogi’s resentment with minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu also started, due to which he had become silent in the party for a long time. On January 11, 2022, he made many allegations against Ashu and resigned from all the posts of Congress and joined AAP. Gogi had a lot of conflict with Ashu in politics.
For this reason, Aam Aadmi Party fielded Gogi against Ashu in the election. Gogi defeated Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of about seven and a half thousand votes.
Gogi’s dream was to clean Budha Dariya
It was MLA Gogi’s dream to clean Budha Dariya. Due to the lack of cleaning of Budha Dariya, many times Gogi used to protest against his own government. Many times Gogi used to surround the administrative officers in the matter of cleaning Budha Dariya.
To show the condition of Budha Dariya, Gogi himself used to take a boat and get into the dirty water of Budha Dariya. Due to lack of work on Budha Dariya, Gogi broke the foundation stone bearing the name of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the bridge of Badi Haibowal saying that the officers are not working and this foundation stone is tarnishing my name. Gogi’s way of working like this had created a distinct identity for him in the city.
