Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday. Here he dedicated INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vagsheer to the nation. On reaching Mumbai, the PM was given a guard of honor.
On this occasion, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi said that ‘these three platforms will make the capability of the Indian Navy strong and effective, which will further strengthen the security of our maritime interests.’
All three platforms are Made in India
On this special occasion, PM Modi addressed the people present there. He said that ‘Today is a big day for the glorious history of India’s maritime heritage Navy and the Self-reliant India campaign.
The PM said, ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had given new strength and vision to the Navy. Today on his holy land, we are taking a big step towards strengthening the 21st century Navy. This is happening for the first time, when a destroyer, a frigate and a submarine are being commissioned simultaneously. It is a matter of pride that all three are Made in India.’
PM said that ‘It is one of the priorities of the country that the military capability of 21st century India should also be more capable and modern. Be it water, land, sky, deep sea or infinite space, India is protecting its interests everywhere. Continuous reforms are being done for this.’
All three platforms are very special
INS Surat is one of the largest and best destroyers in the world. It is the fourth warship of the P15B guided missile destroyer project. 75 percent indigenous material has been used in it.
INS Nilgiri is the first warship of the 17A stealth frigate project. It has been designed to stay in the sea for a long time and with stealth capability. It has been designed by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy.
‘INS Vagsheer’ is the sixth Scorpene submarine built under the ongoing ship-submarine construction project P-75 to increase the Navy’s sea fleet.
