Defending champion India has made a winning start in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. On Sunday, the team defeated West Indies by 9 wickets. Windies batted first in Kuala Lumpur, but the team could score only 44 runs. India achieved the target by losing 1 wicket in just 4.2 overs.
Windies Women all out in 13.2 overs

Sri Lanka Women won by 139 runs in the second match of Group A. The team batted first in Kuala Lumpur and scored 162 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Dahami Sanethma scored a fifty. Malaysia’s team could score only 23 runs after batting in 14.1 overs. 6 batsmen could not even open their account, while the highest individual score was just 7 runs.
India on top of the points table
By winning the first match, India also secured the first position in the points table of Group-A. Sri Lanka also has 2 points equal to India, but due to better run rate, India Women’s team is at number one. The team’s second match will now be against the home team Malaysia on 21 January in Kuala Lumpur. The team will play its third match against Sri Lanka on 23 January.
16 teams are participating in the tournament. 4-4 teams have been divided into 4 groups. 3-3 top teams from each group will go to the Super-6 round. Here 6-6 teams will be divided into 2 groups. Then 2-2 top teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals. The final will be played on 2 February.
Team India was announced on Saturday for the Champions Trophy. Captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar gave information about the team selection in a press conference. Mohammad Siraj and Sanju Samson were dropped from the team. Karun Nair could not make it to the squad despite having an average of 752 in domestic cricket.
