Ignoring traffic rules in Chandigarh will now cost heavily. A record of 411 challans has been made on a single bike. This bike also belongs to Sector-26 Police Line. Due to so many challans, the RLA located in Sector-17 has stopped all kinds of services of bike numbers.
When the RLA searched the records, it was found that 10.80 lakh challans are pending on 1.41 lakh vehicles. There are many such vehicles, which have 200-300 challans. The process of suspending DL and RC has been started by issuing notices to such 43,216 drivers.
Drivers are not taking the challan seriously
People breaking traffic rules in the city are constantly being challaned by cameras, but people are not taking it seriously and are not depositing the challan money. That is why the administration has issued a new order that if 5 or more challans are pending in the name of a vehicle owner, then their driving license will be canceled and the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) will be suspended.
After this, the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) has made a list of 1.41 lakh vehicles on which 10.80 lakh challans have been registered and they have not deposited them. The highest number of challans in this is 411 on a bike. This is the highest number of challans on a vehicle in the entire city. It is also surprising that this bike is registered at an address in Sector-26 Police Line. With immediate effect, RLA has banned any service related to RLA for this bike and has sent a notice to cancel the RC of the vehicle. RLA has a list of many such vehicles on which 200-300 challans have been issued.
Action will be taken even if the vehicle is from outside
Vehicles come and go to Chandigarh daily from Punjab, Haryana as well as Himachal and other places. In such a situation, many challans are of vehicles from neighboring states. This time RLA has made such arrangements that action can be taken on them as well.
For this, citing the Motor Vehicle Act, the services of those vehicles have been stopped from the National Portal of Vehicle Registration located in Delhi. Due to this, they will not be able to get any work done related to their vehicle, irrespective of which state they belong to. Whenever they go to their RTO in their state, they will first be asked to deposit the challan amount.
According to RLA, only those whose licenses and RCs will be cancelled who have not paid even after 90 days of challan. However, first the vehicle owner will get 15 days so that he can deposit the challan amount. Those drivers who have 5 or more challans pending will be sent a notice to pay within 15 days.
The number of challans is so much that 12 personnel had to be called from CTU
When RLA searched the records, the number of people who did not deposit the challan turned out to be very high. In such a situation, 43,216 notices have been printed so far and they are being sent by putting them in envelopes. Preparations are being made to send notices through other means to those whose addresses have changed.
The number of notices is so large that the RLA has sought the help of CTU and called 12 employees on Wednesday so that the notices can be packed in envelopes and sent to the violators’ addresses as soon as possible. If anyone has any objection within 15 days, he can contact the RLA, otherwise the process of cancelling their DL and RC will be started.
