Today Republic Day was celebrated with great pomp across the country. Tableaux from different states attracted the attention of the people. People were mesmerized by seeing the tableau of Haryana. Haryana’s tableau in the Republic Day parade showed a part of Mahabharata. The message of the Bhagavad Gita given during the war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas in Kurukshetra was shown.

The tableau also depicted the state’s progress in technological innovation, women empowerment and the valor of its people. The front part of the tableau depicts the battlefield of Kurukshetra, where Lord Krishna is preaching the Gita to Arjuna. A lot of emphasis has also been laid on Jyotisar. Jyotisar, the place where Lord Krishna gave the divine message to Arjuna. Jyotisar, which is now a pilgrimage site located in the city of Kurukshetra.

What is special in the tableau

The central part of the tableau featured a craft cart inspired by the Surajkund Mela, which displayed handicrafts such as Sarkanda craft, leather shoes, chope, bagh, phulkari, Rewari brassware and surahi.

The tableau showcased historically rural Haryana as a well-developed industrial state. It also showcased the Centre’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme for the welfare of girls.

Haryana as a sports superpower

The last section of the tableau showed how Haryana has become widely recognised as a sports superpower, contributing more than 30 per cent of India’s medals in international competitions, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. This year, Haryana’s athletes have won 16 Olympic and Paralympic medals. Eklavya Harvinder Singh of Kaithal, Haryana has been honoured with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. Their names were announced on the eve of Republic Day.
