Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, constituent parties of the India Alliance, have sent their councillors to safe places fearing that they will be poached by the BJP. Congress councillors are camping in Ludhiana, while AAP councillors have been sent to Ropar.
The main contest in the mayor election to be held on January 30 will be between Premlata of Aam Aadmi Party and Harpreet Kaur Babla of BJP. Jasbir Singh Bunty of Congress and Bimla Dubey of BJP are in the fray for the post of senior deputy mayor. Taruna Mehta of Congress and Lakhbir Billu of BJP are face to face for the post of deputy mayor.
