A high-level interstate meeting was held in Panchkula to prevent drug trafficking in North India and to keep an eye on organized crime, activities of gangsters, terrorism and other criminal challenges. The meeting was attended by Directors General of Police of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh as well as officials of Narcotics Control Bureau and NIA.
In this meeting, topics related to establishing better coordination and coordination between all the states to deal with interstate drug trafficking and terrorism related challenges including organized crime were discussed.
DGP said – Coordination with the states is necessary
This committee was formed after a meeting of the then Chief Ministers and Directors General of Police in 2018. Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapoor said that it is very important to work under an effective action plan to deal with sensitive and terrorism related challenges like drug trafficking, crime control. For this, there should be good coordination among the states across the country.
He said that many times criminals go to another state and hide after committing a crime in one state. In such a situation, if there is good coordination between the police of both the states, then the organization of criminals can definitely be broken.
Interstate Drug Secretariat to be set up in Panchkula
In this meeting, an agenda has been prepared to stop crime and drug trafficking, which will be discussed in detail. To root out the growing interstate drug trade prevalent in the northern states of the country, a meeting was organized in Haryana Niwas Chandigarh in the year 2018 under a joint strategy, in which apart from Haryana, the then Chief Ministers and Directors General of Police of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, National Capital Territory Delhi and UT Chandigarh participated.
It was decided that the Interstate Drug Secretariat would be set up at the Panchkula headquarters of the State Crime Branch, Haryana.
This will be the work of the Drug Secretariat
The Interstate Drug Secretariat located in the State Crime Branch, Panchkula has been established to increase mutual coordination in different states, share information related to drug trafficking, establish sources, routes and contacts related to the supply of drugs in the respective states.
Kapoor said that working in this direction, all the concerned Director General of Police and other senior police officers are brainstorming on sharing real-time intelligence, better coordination and use of technology to deal with the increasing challenges posed by increasing drug trafficking, organized crime in the areas adjoining the state’s border.
