The first meeting of the Advisory Council of Chandigarh Administration will discuss the development and problems of the city. Issues like Tricity Metro traffic problem, multi-level parking, Lal Dora lease hold to free hold heritage status and financial condition of the corporation will be raised in the meeting. For the first time, big leaders of BJP and Congress have been removed from the Advisory Council.
The biggest advisory council meeting of Chandigarh Administration is going to be held on Tuesday regarding the issues related to the city. This will be the first meeting of the new advisory council to be held under the chairmanship of UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
A new advisory council has been formed for two years after the permission of the administrator on December 31. For the first time, 54 personalities from different areas of the city have been included in the council meeting. The council has been formed till December 2026.
Big leaders of BJP and Congress removed
For the first time, big leaders of BJP and Congress have been removed from the Advisory Council. Preparations have been going on in the Chandigarh Secretariat for the last week regarding the first meeting. The last meeting of the Advisory Council was held on 14 September.
In the first meeting, the Administrator will meet the new members and will also discuss with them various issues related to the city in detail. The meeting will be held at Hotel Mount View in Sector-10. Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma also took a presentation on the preparations with the heads of all the departments before the meeting of the Advisory Council.
No new agenda has been included in the new Advisory Council, but in the first meeting of Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria in September, the concerned departments will have to present the report of the suggestions given by various committees and the action taken by the departments on it.
Officials will present the administration’s side on about 60 matters
In the meeting held in September, the Chandigarh Administration officials had presented the action taken report on 92 different issues, but in the last meeting, the Chairman and other members of the sub-committees were not satisfied with the answers of the administration officials. Many departments had sought time to respond to various issues later. In the Advisory Council meeting held on September 14, about 60 new issues were raised by MP Manish Tiwari and the chairmen of various committees. In the meeting to be held on Tuesday, all departments will have to present action reports on all matters.
The Administrator will meet first, sub-committees will be formed later
On Tuesday, the UT Administrator will meet all the new members in the first meeting. In the Advisory Council, many sub-committees are formed for the city including sports, education, environment, transport. Sub-committees will be formed only after the first meeting. Each sub-committee consists of a chairman and other members.
The responsibility of the secretary in the committee is given to the officer of the concerned department of the UT administration. Gulab Chand Kataria has given instructions in the last meeting that a meeting of the sub-committee should be held every two months. This time, for the first time, the chairmen of most of the sub-committees will be celebrities from various fields included in the council. Former MP Kiran Kher, PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vij, UBS Prof. Personalities like Sanjay Kaushik, SD College Principal Dr. Ajay Sharma will be part of the committee.
MP Manish Tiwari will not attend the meeting
Chandigarh MP Manish Tiwari will not participate in the first meeting of the new Advisory Council. Tiwari said that he will not be able to attend the meeting on February 4 due to the budget session in Parliament in New Delhi. Tiwari said that he had requested the administrator to postpone the meeting.
It is not possible to reach the Advisory Council due to the pre-scheduled program of Parliament. Tiwari said that in the last meeting he had raised five major issues related to the city, but no action was taken from August 2024 to February 2025.

Questions on the administration’s action plan regarding traffic problems in the city and multi-level parking.
The matter regarding any solution regarding Lal Dora can also be raised in the meeting.
The matter of lease hold to free hold in the city has been pending for a long time.
The issue of ban on sale of property and new construction due to heritage status from Sector 1 to 30 will be raised.
The corporation will present a report on getting rid of the garbage mountain from the dumping ground in Dadumajra.
The issue of poor financial condition of the corporation will also be raised in the meeting.
The issue of water and electricity connection to people outside the red line.
