In the first house meeting in Chandigarh on Friday, BJP and Congress-AAP alliance came face to face. The matter was about the agenda that came on the table regarding the increase in property tax. As soon as this agenda came, both Congress leaders Jasbir Singh Bunty and Taruna Mehta opposed it. At the same time, the mayor also turned the tables on this agenda.
The mayor said that this bill was not in his knowledge, while the senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor said that if they did not know about this agenda, then how did they let it come to the table. This bill cannot come forward without their signature. Apart from this, they also said that if the mayor was against imposing this property tax, then she had also told journalists against it in an interview, so this agenda should not have been placed in the first house meeting under any circumstances.
People will not be able to pay so much tax
Speaking against this agenda, the argument of deputy mayor Taruna Mehta and senior deputy mayor Jasbir Singh Bunty was that there is already a lot of burden on the residents here. On top of this, the burden of additional tax cannot be put on them. There was a demand to increase the tax from 3% to 12%, and to increase it by 1% every year until it becomes 15%. It is written in this agenda that it is necessary to impose this tax on SCF, shops, SCO and commercial properties. Only this can meet the shortage of the government treasury. Apart from this, there was also a demand to impose tax on residential houses.
What did the mayor say about the agenda?
When Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla was asked about this matter, she said that everything is going on normally. She is still in favor of taking decisions by taking all the parties together. She has rejected the agenda (increasing property tax) that came in today’s first house meeting. Apart from this, future policies will also be in the interest of the people of Chandigarh. Means will be found to increase the government treasury.
