When the reception of the daughter of former Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal was going on in Chandigarh on Monday, a big news shook all the Akalis. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Harjinder Singh Dhami resigned in a hurry and said that he does not want to say anything more than this. He has given this resignation in respect of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. As soon as the news of his resignation came, the direction of the conversation of the people present at the reception changed.
Another upheaval in SAD politics
The Shiromani Akali Dal, which has been facing the Panthic crisis for the last decade and is trying to overcome it, has seen another upheaval in politics. One by one, the Panthic faces of the party are moving away from it.
It was clearly visible in Sukhbir Badal’s daughter’s reception that two big Panthic faces have been sidelined by the party’s senior leadership. In such a situation, whether the party will be able to return to the Panthic ground, this has become a big question.
They had opened up against Harpreet Singh
The way the party leadership including Sukhbir Badal appeared before Panch Singh Sahib at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2 and apologized for the Panthic mistakes committed during their ten-year government, it seemed at one time that the party would now make a comeback.
But just three days later, senior party leader and Sukhbir Badal’s close aide Virsa Singh Valtoha opened a front against Takht Sri Damdama Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and got him relieved from service in an 18-year-old case.
Giani Raghbir Singh had also opposed it
Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh strongly opposed this. The work of removing Giani Harpreet Singh was done by the interim committee led by SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami.
Not only this, he was also under pressure from the seven-member committee formed for the recruitment of Shiromani Akali Dal, of which he was made the chairman.

After Giani Harpreet Singh, the second Panthic face was Harjinder Singh Dhami, but now both of them have been removed from Akali politics. Giani Harpreet Singh has spoken publicly many times for the strengthening of Shiromani Akali Dal.
He has been talking about implementing Akali principles, which is why he was irritating the Akali Dal leadership. Especially when he was held responsible for the order from Akal Takht Sahib. Sukhbir was very unhappy with the decision to withdraw the title of ‘Fakhr-e-Qaum’ from Parkash Singh Badal.
The same Dhami, who was made the head by Sukhbir in the month of November after fighting with his own rebel leaders, is today seen getting crushed in the fight between Akal Takht and Shiromani Akali Dal. There was a lot of pressure on him from the party leadership as well as the Panthic parties and seeing the way the wind is blowing in favor of Giani Harpreet Singh, he thought it better to distance himself from this controversy.
