Congress’ newly appointed state president Bhupesh Baghel is coming to Chandigarh on 28 February. He will hold an official meeting with party leaders on 1 March. Even before the arrival of the new in-charge, Gurdaspur MP and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has demanded that timely action should be taken against those who break discipline in the party, because some leaders consider themselves above the party.
Randhawa has also come in support of state president Amarinder Singh Raja Vading. He says, ‘Raja has been made the state president by the party high command. Therefore, all Congressmen should respect him.’ However, he did not name any leader in his statement. Against whom he is demanding action.
Lobbying is being done in Congress
Let us tell you that Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjit Singh had recently said that he personally does not like Rana Vading but the party has made him the chief. Therefore, he accepts the decision of the party.
The important thing is that the tussle has started in the Congress even before the party’s new in-charge and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel officially took charge in Punjab.
On one hand, lobbying is going on to become the state head, while on the other hand, disciplinary action is being demanded against those who break discipline. Randhawa himself believes that currently 8 to 9 leaders are contenders for the leadership.
Let us tell you that Baghel is coming to Chandigarh on 28 February. He will hold a meeting with the party leaders on March 1. This will be his first visit after becoming in-charge.
Indiscipline is not a new issue in Congress
Indiscipline is not a new issue in Congress. In 2021, Navjot Singh Sidhu opened a front against the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. This fight became so strong that the Captain had to leave the Chief Minister’s chair. After that Sidhu opened a front against the then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Due to the fight between Sidhu and Channi, Congress had to lose power in 2022. After this, the party handed over the responsibility of state president to Raja Vading in place of Sidhu.
The then state in-charge Harish Chaudhary issued a show cause notice to Sidhu but later it was shelved. In such a situation, now all eyes are on Baghel whether he will be able to control the indiscipline prevailing in Punjab Congress or not.
