Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, which is facing financial crisis, is now preparing to provide free electricity and water. Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is soon making a proposal, in which it is going to provide free electricity and water to all the Gaushalas of the city.
By withdrawing Rs 50 crore from the pension fund of retired employees, the February salary and wages of 2157 regular, 75 contract and 6972 outsourced employees have been issued. Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has property tax worth crores of rupees pending with PGI and PU, which has not been paid yet. While the Municipal Corporation has also sent reminders several times to pay the money.
Electricity bill of Rs 6 crore was paid from pension fund
Rs 96 crore was deposited in the pension account of the Municipal Corporation. On March 5, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation did not have money to pay the electricity bill of Kajauli Water Works, so it paid the electricity bill of Rs 6 crore from the pension fund. The head of the account branch got the file approved from the corporation commissioner to borrow Rs 50 crore by breaking the FD of the pension account.
As soon as the approval was received, the bank officials were called and the FD was broken. This amount was transferred to the salary accounts of the employees.
4 Gaushalas in the city
There are 4 big Gaushalas in the city, which are in Raipur Kalan, Sector-25, Sector-45, village Maloya. Every month 16.5 crore is spent on the salary of regular employees and 26 crore on outsourced wages. 4.50 crore is spent on pension. In total, every month 47 crore rupees are spent on salary, wages and pension. Every month 2.50 crore is spent on petrol and diesel of the corporation’s vehicles.
No officer was ready to talk about withdrawing money from the pension account. It was even said that salary will be given by taking a loan. To take a loan, property has to be mortgaged. Its agenda has to be passed from the House. This process could be completed only after Holi.
