Kisan Andolan: The Punjab Police has removed the farmer leaders who were staging a sit-in protest at Shambhu and Khanauri border of Punjab for 13 months. The Punjab Police cleared the protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri borders in a planned manner. The police have removed barricades, vehicles and temporary structures.
The strategy for this was already prepared by the Punjab Police. The responsibility of this action was handed over to the Mohali Police, which was working on this plan since morning. The police started arresting the farmers in Mohali at around 5:30 pm on Wednesday.
The police started the action with JCB at Shambhu border at around 7:30 pm and the border was cleared at around 9:30 am. Similarly, the JCB reached the Khanauri border at 7.45 pm and the border was cleared at 9.30 am. The farmers were sitting on a dharna at Shambhu and Khanauri border for about 13 months. What has happened so far?
13 February: Dharna started on Shambhu and Khanauri border for about 12 demands including MSP.
21 February: Farmers tried to go to Delhi. Bathinda farmer Shubhkaran died in the clash.
10 March: Shubhkaran case reached Punjab and Haryana High Court.
16 March: Code of conduct imposed due to Lok Sabha elections, but farmers staged a permanent protest.
1 April: Shubhkaran’s death case reached Supreme Court.
17 April: Farmers blocked the railway track demanding the release of arrested farmers.
20 May: Farmers decided to move away from the railway line, but the protest continued on the borders.
10 July: High Court ordered Haryana government to open Shambhu border within a week.
16 July: Farmers held a meeting in Chandigarh. Said, if the border opens, they will again march towards Delhi.
22 July: Haryana government demanded time to present its side in the Supreme Court.
24 July: The Supreme Court, while hearing the case, asked to maintain the status quo on the border.
12 August: The Supreme Court ordered the government not to open the Shambhu border for ambulances, elderly and girl students.
25 August: The meeting of farmers and Punjab Haryana police officers on opening Shambhu border failed.
