A case of death of a 20-year-old youth from Mohali has come to light in a Merchant Navy ship in London. He had joined the Navy as a cadet. Merchant Navy officials say that the youth has committed suicide by hanging himself on the ship, while the family suspects that the son has been murdered. Because on the day the suicide is being talked about,
that day he had talked to his son on a video call and he looked absolutely fine at that time. The deceased has been identified as Balraj Singh. When the family reached Mohali with the body, they got the post-mortem done at Mohali Civil Hospital, so that the real reason for the death could be clear.
Suicide was reported on phone on March 16
The deceased’s father Vikram Singh told that his son had gone to Singapore on December 7, from where he boarded a ship and left for London. He had talked to his son at 5 am on March 16. He talked to him for 15 minutes on a video call. While in the evening at 9 pm, a call came from a merchant navy officer that his son Balraj had died and they could come to take the body.
He agreed and the merchant navy officers took his and his nephew’s passport and got the visa. However, he did not believe it, so he tried calling Balraj repeatedly, but he did not pick up the phone.
The body was kept in the freezer
When he reached an Ireland in London, his son’s body was kept in the freezer there. Most of the people working there were of foreign origin. While some people were from Bengal and Kerala. It was revealed that his seniors used to harass him a lot and also made fun of his religion. Balraj used to get a little upset before this.
But they explained to him that he should just focus on his work and ignore their words. After which Balraj also settled down. He told the senior officials of the company about this, but no one listened to him.
Postmortem was conducted by giving a letter to SDM
Vikram Singh reached Mohali with the body and the family gave a letter to SDM Mohali and appealed to conduct the postmortem of Balraj Singh’s body. On the order of SDM, a panel of doctors of Civil Hospital conducted the postmortem of the body.
He has cremated his son today and will soon approach the police and the concerned investigation agency regarding this matter. He will file a complaint to take legal action against the officers responsible for his son’s death.
Balraj had complained of feet getting rotten
Vikram Singh told that Balraj had told him that his feet had got rotten because he was made to work for 36-36 hours there and during this time he kept wearing shoes continuously. That is why his feet had got rotten. On this, he had told Balraj to put salt in lukewarm water and apply it on his feet, which would give him relief. But when he talked to the Merchant Navy officers about this, they said that only eight hours of duty was taken in a day.
