Fazilka. The protest organized by MNREGA workers on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway over their demands ended after 30 hours at 6 pm on Thursday evening.
A series of meetings continued for two days between the union leaders and administrative officials to end the protest. On Thursday evening, ADC (D) Subhash Chandra assured to accept all the demands, after which the protest was removed. At the same time, the police have registered a case against 206 people by naming six leaders of the union who staged a protest on the highway without permission.
Sit-in at 12 noon on Wednesday
Due to the protest organized on the highway in Fazilka from 12 noon on Wednesday, drivers had to face problems. Many truck drivers spent the whole night on the road. However, as soon as morning came, the trucks were sent towards Ferozepur through alternative routes.
Senior Vice President of Kul Hind Kisan Sabha Punjab, Surinder Dhandiyan and Narinder Dhabaan etc. said that MNREGA workers of 10 villages of the district have been visiting the offices of the officials for a long time regarding their demands, but their demands are not being heard. They alleged that job card holders are not being given work.
Case registered against 200 people
At the same time, ASI Jagdish Singh of Police Station City said that this protest was held without the approval of the administration. Police have registered a case against Hansraj Golden, Surinder Dhandiyan, Shubeg Singh, Gurdial Singh, Kulwant Singh, Bhajan Lal, besides 150 to 200 unknown protesters in this case.
ADC D reiterated that employment is being given under MNREGA with complete transparency and new mates are also being appointed through Gram Sabhas. Gram Sabhas were called in the villages where there was a problem of mates, despite this, it is unfortunate to hold a protest.
