Jalandhar. The weather has changed in many districts of Punjab due to storm and rain on Thursday evening. Due to rain, the wheat crop lying in the open in the mandis got wet, which has increased the concern of the farmers.
Trees and poles fell due to storm at many places in the state. People had to face a lot of problems due to power supply being disrupted for 12 to 14 hours in many districts.
According to the data of PSPCL, about 30 thousand electricity complaints were registered from late Thursday night to Friday morning. Out of these, only 8,400 complaints could be resolved.
During this time 521 feeders also had to be shut down due to fault. Gurdaspur recorded the highest rainfall of 44.40 mm. Let us tell you that these days along with wheat harvesting in the state, purchase in the mandis is also in full swing.
Problems of farmers increased due to slow lifting
Farmers are continuously reaching the mandis with wheat, but due to slow lifting, farmers are forced to keep the wheat in the soil. Due to rain on Thursday evening, it became difficult to handle wheat in the mandis.
Due to lack of drainage at many places, sacks of wheat remained soaked in rain water till afternoon. On the other hand, the weather department has predicted similar weather for the next four days. Horticulture and agriculture expert Dr. Nikhil Mehta said that there is a possibility of damage to wheat and mustard crops due to storm.
25 buffaloes and 15 goats died
Due to storm in village Dargabad of Gurdaspur, the shed of poultry farm fell, due to which three thousand chicks died. Electricity poles and transformers fell in village Khushipur, in village Narangpur, due to lightning, the straw storage caught fire, in village Raichak, 25 buffaloes and 15 goats were burnt due to fire caused by storm. Due to strong storm in Hoshiarpur, the fire from the fields reached the houses, due to which 12 buffaloes got scorched.
Due to strong storm in Ferozepur, wheat stubble caught fire in three places, burning more than a thousand acres of stubble. About four lakh four thousand 697 metric tons of wheat is yet to be lifted in the mandis of Ferozepur. 3.80 lakh metric tons of wheat crop got wet due to rain in the mandis of Sangrur district.
