Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh conducted a surprise inspection of hospitals in Derabassi, Laldoo and Zirakpur in district Mohali, where the Health Minister said that the government is going to recruit 1,000 new doctors soon. He said that the recruitment process has already started and this will strengthen the health services.
Dr Balbir Singh took direct feedback from patients and common people present in the hospitals. He inquired from those taking OPD slips about the time taken in queues and the condition of health facilities.
The Health Minister said that free lab tests and medicines are being provided in government hospitals and providing better services to patients is the priority of the government. He said that doctors of medicine, surgery, gynecology and children are posted in most CHCs and SDHs. At the same time, ophthalmologists, ENT and dermatologists will be made available on weekly roster basis.
The infrastructure at the Community Health Center in Laldoo is good, but additional staff is needed to improve the services, on which action will be taken. There is no shortage of staff in Derabassi, but there is less space in the building, a decision will be taken soon. At Zirakpur Hospital, he reviewed other medical services including laparoscopic surgery.
On the shortage of nursing staff, he also said that the state government is working to fill these posts.
