Congress and BJP have started to woo Dalits in Haryana. Congress is doing Samvidhan Yatra these days. BJP has started the program ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman’ under the leadership of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Former CM Khattar has put his chief media advisor Sudesh Kataria on the ground to make this program successful.
In fact, Sudesh Kataria’s name is included among the big Dalit faces of Haryana BJP. Taking lessons from the Lok Sabha elections in this assembly election, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had entrusted him with the responsibility of Dalit conferences to be held across the state.
Sudesh Kataria has come to BJP from Congress. Kataria left Congress in 2014 and joined BJP. Since then, he has been continuously working as an active worker in BJP.
Read here in which districts the campaign has been completed so far…
In the last five months, Union Minister Manohar Lal himself participated in the big events of Rohtak, Kurukshetra, Nilokheri, while Sudesh Kataria himself has taken charge of the small and big events going on continuously in other districts. On 23 and 24 May, Samvidhan Samman, Swabhiman Samaroh is going to be organized at dozens of places in Yamunanagar, in which Sudesh Kataria will participate as the chief guest. Haryana Scheduled Caste Commission Vice Chairman Virendra Badgujar has also been invited to it.
The experiment was successful in the assembly elections
Taking lessons from the Lok Sabha elections, the central leadership of BJP in Haryana used the Dalit conference in the assembly elections. The central leadership gave the responsibility of convincing the Dalits through these conferences to Khattar. The reason for this was that Khattar was the Chief Minister of Haryana for 9 and a half years. The BJP government worked under his leadership for 2 consecutive terms. This was the reason why Khattar was also given responsibility in the hat-trick of the government. This experiment of the party was completely successful and BJP was able to form the government in Haryana for the third time.
These are the 3 big reasons for wooing Dalits…
First.. There are 21% Dalit voters in the state. 17 seats in the state are reserved for Dalits. Congress is also doing Samvidhan Yatra to woo them. To ensure that Dalits do not get separated from the party, BJP has started the campaign ‘Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman’ parallel to this yatra. There are 35 such seats in the state where Dalit voters have influence. If they support a party, then winning their seat is certain. Keeping this in mind, BJP is now focusing on Dalits.
Second.. Congress campaigned for taking away reservation and changing the constitution in the Lok Sabha elections. Which had a big impact on the Dalit voters of Haryana. This is the reason why they got distanced from BJP. In the assembly elections too, Rahul Gandhi had campaigned for ending reservation for Dalits by showing the constitution in his rallies, but through conferences, BJP tried to prove Congress’s claims wrong.
Third.. After losing 5 out of 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, it came to light in BJP’s review meeting that Jat and Dalit voters had united against them. Due to which they lost one-sidedly in seats like Rohtak and Sirsa by 2.5 to 3.5 lakh votes. They lost Sonipat seat by just 22 thousand. Kurukshetra, Gurugram and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh narrowly escaped defeat. BJP was successful in breaking this unity.
BJP came to power for the third time in Haryana
BJP has been running the government in Haryana for 2 consecutive terms. In 2014, BJP formed a majority government by winning 47 out of 90 seats in the assembly. In 2019, BJP was reduced to 40 seats, but formed the government again with the support of 10 MLAs of JJP. In this election, BJP has created history by registering a landslide victory on 48 seats.
