The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has taken a tough stand on not implementing the reservation policy properly in Punjab University (PU). The commission has given a final warning to the university administration and said that now respond within 7 days, otherwise legal action will be taken.
The Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) had complained that the PU administration has not given the fixed reserved seats to the people of Scheduled Castes in the major committees of the university like Senate and Syndicate. This is a direct violation of the reservation policy of the Government of India.
Notice was received earlier also, now the last chance
This complaint went to the commission on 20 October 2024. After this, the commission sent the first notice to the university on 6 February 2025 and sought a reply in 15 days. But no response was given by the university.
Now the commission has given the last warning on 23 May 2025 and said that respond within 7 days or else strict action will be taken.
These are the demands of ASA
Immediate appointments should be made on reserved seats in all the committees of PU.
The university should apologize and give in writing that the policy will be followed in future.
If the reply is not received within 7 days, the commission will take action under the law.
ASA has said that it will continue its fight for social justice and equality.
