There are 13875 seats in 42 government schools of Chandigarh as per the prospectus issued by the Chandigarh Education Department for admission in class 11th. The application process has started. Now, do check which courses are there and how many seats are there in them. While preparing the merit list, the education department will prepare the merit by adding the marks of the children in 5 subjects of class 10th. Like last year, this time also the seats will be allotted on the basis of 85 percent and 15 percent. In the government schools of the city, there is more choice of getting admission on the basis of reserved seats in 85-15 and in some schools on the basis of sports quota.
85 percent of the seats are reserved only for the children who have passed class 10th in the government schools of Chandigarh, while in 15 percent, children who have passed class 10th in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, private schools and government and private schools of other states will be given admission. Last year many children had applied in the quota of government schools. Seats were allotted by the department but after verification of documents their allotted seats were cancelled. They could not get seats in either 85 or 15 percent and had to turn to private schools in the city. This time the department has warned the children to apply according to their quota. Teachers and staff are helping the children who have come to submit forms in government schools and are also explaining important things so that their forms are not cancelled due to any mistake.
Reserved seats
Girls will be admitted in PM Shri GGMSSS located in Sector-18, GGMSSS located in Sector-20 and GGMSSS located in Sector-23. Whereas S. 15% of C category, Sports category 2. Children with special need and presence with disabilities 5. Children of Defence and Paramilitary Defence 5. Freedom fighter children and grade children 2. Kashmiri Mahiyats. Seats are reserved in schools in all faculties. Apart from the seats in fashion study, tax designing course in Sector-45 and Manimajra Town, 10 seats will be reserved for additional Muslim girls.
Sports category
On behalf of Chandigarh Sports Academy, seats are allotted to the candidates of sports category on the basis of merit by the committee constituted by the Director Sports in GMSSS of Sector-37 B and D, Sector-35 and 18. Apart from this, 6-6 seats are allotted for boys and girls in fencing in GMSSS located in Sector-10. 6 seats are allotted for boys and girls in GMSSS located in Sector-22. In GMSSS, Sector 26, 12 seats are reserved for girls in football, 8 each for boys and girls in GMSSS, Timber Market, Sector 26, 7 each for boys and girls in softball and baseball in GMSSS, Sector 37B. In GSSS, Sector 45 and GSSS, Manimajra Town, 10 seats are reserved for Muslim girls in vocational courses.
Total 42 Senior Secondary Schools There are a total of 42 senior secondary government schools in the city. Out of these, 18 schools offer science medical, 17 science non-medical, 23 schools offer commerce, 39 schools offer humanities and 23 schools offer vocational courses. Out of total 13875 seats, there are 3080 seats in Medical and Non-Medical, 1980 in Commerce, 7060 in Arts and 1755 in Electives/Skill Courses.
