Like Canada and America, Punjab Police will now keep an eye on every movement of drug smugglers after they come out of jail. For this, the police will make drug smugglers wear GPS tracking anklets on their feet after they come out of jail. This project will be started after taking legal opinion.
This claim has been made by Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav. He said that it will be used when big drug smugglers come out of jail. Jammu and Kashmir Police is using this thing. Police is using it for terrorists and drug smugglers. At the same time, the campaign to catch drug smugglers is not over yet. It is still going on continuously.
Every movement will be monitored
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that when an accused gets bail, there are some conditions which have to be followed. Such people need to be monitored. As we have studied other states, Jammu and Kashmir uses GPS tracking system when prisoners of UAPA cases come out of jail.
We are also making a strategy to use this thing for big drug smugglers. For this, we will get it installed with the order of the court. Our effort will be that no one’s human rights are violated. However, if anyone tries to break this system, the police will find out about him.
250 FIRs of drug smuggling in jails
Jails are being upgraded with Rs 500 crore. Drug addicts coming to jails can be taken towards de-addiction. Work is being done in this direction. During this time, more than 250 such FIRs have been registered, which show that drugs have been recovered in jails.
In such a situation, the role of jail employees and officers is being investigated. The High Court has also clearly said that such employees will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against them. In the villages where proposals to end drug abuse have been passed, drug abuse has really ended in those villages.
This will be investigated. We will talk to the Panchayat and BDC members about this, in which it will be found out who is selling drugs and from where the drugs are coming from outside.
Police officers will adopt drug users
Punjab Police officers will now adopt a drug user. They will motivate them to stop taking drugs. Also, they will be encouraged to start a normal life again. This work will be done on a completely voluntary basis. The DGP said that he himself will participate in this campaign. It has been named “Each One Adopt One”. The DGP has appealed to all the people to cooperate in this.
