Recommendation to increase compensation for martyrs in Chandigarh: Demand to increase it to Rs 1 crore; Agniveers should get 10% reservation in government jobs


Chandigarh District Sainik Board has recommended to the administration that the ex-gratia amount given to the families of soldiers martyred in the line of duty should be increased from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Along with this, the board has also demanded 10% reservation in government jobs of Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ to Agniveers.

These recommendations were placed in the meeting of the District Sainik Board, which was chaired by District Sainik Board Chairman and Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav. Several other proposals related to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families were also discussed in the meeting.

Brig BS Dhillon (Retd), Vice President ZSB, Lieutenant Colonel Sanjeev Sharma as representative of Station Headquarters Chandigarh, Lieutenant Colonel RK Singh (Retd), social worker KK Sharda and District Sainik Welfare Officer Colonel HS Ghuman (Retd) were also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the following major proposals were sent to the Chandigarh Administration for approval.

Recommendation to increase compensation to families of martyrs to ₹ 1 crore

The board has recommended that the ex-gratia amount given to the families of those soldiers of Defense Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces who are martyred during duty should be increased from ₹ 50 lakh to ₹ 1 crore.

10% reservation for Agniveers in Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ government jobs

The board recommended an additional 10% reservation for Agniveers in all direct recruitments under the Chandigarh Administration. This proposal was passed in view of the service and dedication of Agniveers to the country.

Demand to implement ‘Physical Casualty’ financial assistance scheme

It has been recommended to start a scheme to provide one-time financial assistance of ₹ 1 lakh to the next of kin of such defense personnel who lose their lives during duty due to any reason other than war.

Repair of Sainik Vishram Grih should start soon

The DC expressed concern over the poor condition of Sainik Vishram Grih located in Sector 21 and directed the officials to coordinate with the Chief Engineer, UT Chandigarh and start the tender process soon and start the repair work as per the approved plan.
