Chandigarh administration started action against encroachment in Adarsh Colony of Sector 53-54 this morning. The administration team reached the spot with heavy police force, bulldozers and ambulances. A campaign is being run here to free about 12 acres of government land from encroachment. All departments have been put on alert.
According to the information, on Thursday morning, the administration team reached Sector 54 Furniture Market, where demolition action was started. Most of the people had already removed their goods as they had already been warned by the administration. Some miscreants set fire themselves, after which the police retreated everyone. Before this action, some people were removing their goods.
A meeting was held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav regarding this campaign, in which senior officials of Police, Municipal Corporation, Engineering and Health Department participated. All the necessary preparations of the campaign were reviewed in the meeting.
More than 1000 policemen deployed
In the meeting, the SSP assured that more than a thousand policemen have been deployed to maintain law and order. Also, strong arrangements have been made for barricading and security in the entire area so that any kind of trouble can be avoided.
