A father who went to call his daughters playing in the park in Vikas Nagar, Manimajra, Chandigarh, got electrocuted. There was current flowing in an electric pole on the way, he touched the pole which was carrying current. The shock was so strong that Surendra fainted on the spot. The family immediately took him to Panchkula Civil Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Local people have blamed the negligence of the Municipal Corporation and called it “murder, not an accident”. Angry people have demanded action against the officers and employees and compensation to the victim’s family. Paras, who reached the spot, said that such accidents have happened before as well. The administration should take strict action regarding this soon.
Surendra Kumar lived in house number 959 in Vikas Nagar. When he returned from work, his two daughters (5 and 2 years old) were playing in a nearby park. Surendra went to the park to call them and standing there touched the iron pole nearby. There was current in the pole, due to which he got a strong shock and fell down. This pole was of the street light of the Municipal Corporation, under which the wires were lying open.
Corporation held responsible
BJP Yuva Morcha’s state general secretary Shaanu Dubey, who reached the spot, raised questions on the functioning of the corporation. He said that due to the negligence of the corporation, wires are lying open in many poles in Vikas Nagar Mauli Jagran Park and Green Belt. This is proving to be fatal, yet no one is responsible.
As soon as the information was received, the police of Mauli Jagran police station reached the spot. The statements of the family members have been recorded and the police has started the investigation. Surendra’s body has been kept in the mortuary of Panchkula Civil Hospital. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem report comes.
