Rewari, Haryana: A cunning “looteri dulhan” (con bride) has been arrested by police in Rewari district of Haryana. The accused woman, identified as Kaushalya alias Pooja, hails from Hakimpur village in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, she is already married and has four children. Her boyfriend, Rakesh, played a crucial role in this fraudulent marriage racket.
Fake Identity, Rented Parents, and Organized Scam
Kaushalya and Rakesh together created an organized gang to cheat men under the pretense of marriage. To make the act convincing, they hired fake parents, paying people as little as ₹500 to act as her mother and ₹1000 as her father. The gang operated across state borders, with a network that extended into Rajasthan.
Kaushalya confessed that after developing differences with her husband, she grew close to Rakesh. To support her children and her boyfriend, she devised a scheme to trap men by faking marriages. They would contact middlemen in poor villages and specifically targeted unmarried, elderly, and financially well-off men from other states.
From Rajasthan to Haryana: A Trail of Fraud
The gang’s first known victim was a youth from Kumher village in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. They fled with ₹2 lakh in cash and jewelry worth ₹1 lakh after the marriage. A case was registered, and both were arrested by Rajasthan Police but were later released on bail.
After their release, they targeted Jaldeep from Rewari district, Haryana. On 3 June 2024, Kaushalya married him using the name Pooja, and entered his house on 4 June. But that very night, she absconded with jewelry and ₹20,000 in cash.
