Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s Mother & Bodyguard Shot Dead in Gurdaspur; Bambiha Gang Claims Responsibility

Date:

In a shocking late-night incident in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s mother and personal bodyguard were shot dead by unidentified assailants. The victims—Harjeet Kaur (52), mother of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, and his bodyguard Karanvir Singh (29)—were targeted in a brutal ambush outside their residence on Thursday night.

According to police sources, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire at the vehicle in which Harjeet and Karanvir were seated, killing both on the spot. Initial investigations suggest that Karanvir was the primary target, although multiple bullets also struck Harjeet. CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced and is now part of the police probe.

Timeline of the Attack

The incident occurred around 9:07 PM in Urban Estate, Batala. Harjeet Kaur and Karanvir had just returned home and remained seated in the car when two armed assailants approached on a motorcycle. One of them opened fire at the driving side of the vehicle. Karanvir, who was driving, died on the spot while Harjeet sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the civil hospital—where she was declared brought dead.

Gurdaspur SSP Suhail Qasim Mir confirmed the double murder and said an intensive investigation is underway. “Statements are being recorded, and CCTV footage is being analysed. A forensic team has been deployed,” he added.

Gang War Angle Suspected

Within hours of the murder, responsibility was claimed by members of the rival Bambiha Gang, known for its enmity with Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Three gangsters—Donnie Bal Billa Manga, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary (from Haryana)—released a chilling message on social media.

In their post, the gangsters claimed that:

  • Karanvir was not just a bodyguard but also handled Jaggu’s finances and weapons.

  • The murder was revenge for the killing of their associate Gora Barayad.

  • They warned that any unjustified murder of their gang members would be avenged similarly.

Harjeet Kaur Lived Alone

Sources confirmed that Harjeet Kaur was living alone in a rented home in Batala. Her son Jaggu Bhagwanpuria is currently lodged in Assam’s Silchar Jail, and her other children live abroad. She was known to keep a low profile, despite being related to one of Punjab’s most feared gangsters.

Who is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria?

Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, a resident of Bhagwanpur village in Gurdaspur, has a long criminal history. He faces over 128 cases related to murder, extortion, arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and gang rivalry. His name also came up in the investigation of the Sidhu Moosewala murder case, where he allegedly supported Lawrence Bishnoi.

Their alliance eventually turned into rivalry. A major fallout occurred after a gang war in Goindwal Jail led to the death of Jaggu’s close aides Mandeep Toofan and Mohna Mansa. That attack was claimed by Bishnoi’s ally Goldy Brar. Following security concerns, Jaggu was shifted from Bathinda Jail to Silchar Jail in Assam in March 2025.

Security Agencies on Alert

The twin murders have raised serious questions about the ongoing gang wars in Punjab. Sources in the police suggest that this may not be the last such attack, as the feud between the Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria factions remains unresolved.

Law enforcement agencies are now monitoring social media channels used by gangsters to track threats and potential future attacks. “This is not just a murder case—it’s part of a larger network of organized crime,” a senior police official stated.

The Punjab Police is likely to coordinate with central intelligence agencies to investigate the extent of support and planning that went into the latest attack.

Post-Mortem, Forensic Reports Awaited

Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Ballistics teams have been deployed to determine the exact type of weapons used. According to hospital sources, Harjeet Kaur sustained at least six bullet wounds, while Karanvir was hit by four bullets, including two in the head.

Police are also trying to identify the motorcycle and the route taken by the shooters. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being collected, and questioning of locals is underway.
