With the weather being clear for 2 consecutive days in Chandigarh and the monsoon becoming mild, people got some relief from the sun and humidity, but the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain from 6th to 9th July. The sky will remain cloudy on Saturday as well. Meanwhile, the administration has rehearsed the opening of the flood gate of Sukhna Lake. Because the water level of the lake is now only 4 feet below the danger mark.
The Meteorological Department issued a warning and said that the monsoon will be active once again between 6th and 9th July. In these 4 days, along with normal rain, heavy rain may also occur at some places. Due to this, the city dwellers may again have to face problems like waterlogging and traffic jams.
Sukhna Lake water level reached 1159 feet
After heavy rains in the past few days, the water level of Sukhna Lake has reached 1159 feet, while the danger mark is at 1163 feet. In view of this, the flood gates were opened on Thursday afternoon and their condition was checked.
This exercise was done in the presence of engineers and administrative officials, so that the gates can be opened immediately in case of emergency. It is worth noting that earlier on July 12, 2023, when the city received 302 mm of rain, the flood gates were opened when the water level of Sukhna reached the danger mark.
