Date:

Punjab Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia has not got relief from Punjab and Haryana High Court in the disproportionate assets case. Majithia’s lawyers sought three weeks’ time to amend the petition challenging the arrest, which has been accepted by the High Court. The next hearing will be held on July 29.

Former minister Majithia is currently lodged in Nabha jail. Majithia’s police remand ended on July 6, after which the Mohali court sent him to judicial custody till July 19. The jail administration has installed CCTV cameras in his barracks citing security reasons and has made it clear that he will not be given any special facility.

According to the government lawyer, the next hearing of the case will be on July 29. While taking Majithia to jail, the police had made tight security arrangements and the movement of vehicles on the road leading to the jail was banned. Majithia was arrested from Amritsar

The Vigilance Bureau registered a case against Majithia in Mohali at 4:30 am on June 25 in the disproportionate assets case. After this, raids were conducted at 26 places in the state related to Majithia. Then after 11:30 am, Majithia was arrested from his house in Amritsar.

During this, 29 mobile phones, 5 laptops, 3 iPads, 2 desktops, 8 diaries and other documents were claimed to be recovered. It was claimed that these were recovered from Majithia.
