A birthday celebration in Hisar’s Dhanai Kishan Datt area turned tragic after a police intervention over DJ sound resulted in violent clashes, the death of a 16-year-old Dalit boy, and serious injuries to another. A new video surfacing on social media has further inflamed tensions, showing police allegedly thrashing a youth while a woman tries to intervene.
Though police have not officially confirmed the authenticity of the viral video, it has gone viral across platforms, prompting strong reactions from the Dalit community and civil society groups.
What Happened: Clash Over DJ at Birthday Party
The incident occurred on Monday night, when police responded to a complaint about loud DJ music at a birthday party in the 12 Quarter Area of Hisar. According to police, when they asked for the music to be stopped, a confrontation broke out between officers and several youths from the Dalit community.
Police allege they were attacked with stones and sharp weapons, including gandasis (sickles), by a group of 15–20 youths led by Shubham alias Kaku and Shiva alias Ghoda. Both are known to police, and one of them is a history-sheeter.
During the scuffle, two boys fell from a rooftop. One of them, Ganesh (16), succumbed to his injuries, while another, Akash, was seriously injured and remains hospitalized.
Viral Video Sparks Brutality Allegations
A video that emerged on Tuesday appears to show a youth being beaten with lathis by police, while a female relative tries to stop the officers. She is seen being pushed away. Though the authenticity is yet to be verified by officials, it has sparked outrage online, with many demanding accountability.
Dalit activists allege that police used excessive force and have accused officers of pushing the boys off the roof. However, police have released a separate video statement from injured survivor Akash, who claimed:
“We tried to escape seeing the police. First Ganesh jumped, then I did. We thought the wall was low, but it turned out to be a two-storey height. We fell into the alley below and blacked out.”
Medical Report Confirms Jumping from Height
The Civil Hospital doctor who prepared Akash’s Medico-Legal Report (MLR) confirmed that the injuries were consistent with a fall from height, and that Akash himself stated he jumped.
Meanwhile, the police have filed an FIR under multiple IPC sections including obstruction in government work, assault on public servants, and criminal conspiracy. The FIR names Shubham, Shiva, and 15–20 unknown persons as accused.
Police Officers Also Injured
Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar, the in-charge of 12 Quarter Chowki, sustained serious head injuries during the attack and remains admitted in the hospital. In his statement, he said:
“We found DJ playing loudly outside Shubham’s house. When we tried to stop it, they argued and called others. Soon, a mob attacked us with stones and dangerous weapons. I was hit on the head and collapsed.”
Another injured officer, ASI Mahender, who had been called for backup, was also assaulted. Both officers were admitted to a nearby hospital and are under observation.
Dalit Community to Decide Next Course of Action
As the video circulates and tensions rise, local Dalit organizations have called for an urgent community meeting on Wednesday to decide their next steps. Some leaders have already demanded a judicial inquiry, suspension of involved officers, and appropriate compensation for the deceased’s family.
“The family alleges custodial brutality and targeted action. If the police version is true, let it come out through independent investigation — not through selective videos,” said a local Dalit rights activist.
Official Investigation Underway
Police officials have confirmed that a magisterial inquiry has been initiated to probe the circumstances of Ganesh’s death and the nature of police action. Hisar SP has urged the public to avoid speculations and await the completion of the forensic analysis and video authentication.
Meanwhile, district officials are trying to defuse the situation by engaging with community leaders and assuring them of fair investigation.
Broader Tensions Around Caste and Policing in Haryana
The Hisar incident once again brings the spotlight back on caste-linked policing practices in Haryana, where tensions often arise during enforcement in marginalized neighborhoods. Activists claim that Dalit youth are frequently targeted, and force is used disproportionately.
With elections looming and political sensitivities rising, the issue is likely to take a statewide political turn if not resolved transparently and swiftly.
Conclusion: A Case of Misunderstanding or Misconduct?
As the FIRs fly from both sides, and contradictory video clips circulate online, the truth behind Ganesh’s death and the police’s actions remains clouded. The coming days, especially the Dalit community’s collective decision, will shape the political and legal future of this incident.
The need of the hour is independent investigation, transparency in facts, and restraint from both communities and law enforcement, so justice is not only done but seen to be do
