Squadron Leader Lokendra Singh Sindhu (32) of Rohtak, Haryana, who was martyred in the Jaguar fighter jet crash in Churu, Rajasthan, had a dream of joining the army since the beginning. His grandfather Balwan Singh Sindhu has been a Havildar in the Army, while his sister Anshi has also been in the Air Force. There was always an environment of serving the country in the family, so Lokendra also chose the path of joining the army.
When he filled the NDA form for the first time, his grandfather strengthened his morale by making him meet the Brigadier. This was the reason that Lokendra succeeded in the first attempt itself and chose the Air Force. Lokendra was an expert in flying fighter jets.
Family members say that once he had an accident while flying a Jaguar. But, at that time, defeating death, Lokendra landed the fighter jet safely. According to brother Gyanendra Sindhu, the family went to meet him after this accident. At that time, Lokendra had told that one of the shortcomings of Jaguar is that when it comes below 500 feet, it becomes difficult to take off.
In the accident that happened in Rajasthan, Lokendra saved 1200 families of Bhanuda Vidawatan and Bhanuda Charnan. If the fighter jet had fallen on these two villages, more people would have been killed. Lokendra and his co-pilot Rishiraj did not let the plane crash on the village till the last moment.
