19-Year-Old DU Student Sneha Debnath Goes Missing in Delhi: Last Seen Near Signature Bridge, CM Saha Seeks Urgent Action
New Delhi. A mysterious disappearance has gripped the national capital, as 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a student from Tripura, went missing from Delhi on 7 July 2025. A first-year student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College under Delhi University, Sneha’s vanishing has triggered concern not only among her family but also at the highest levels of Tripura’s administration.
With no signs of her whereabouts for over a week, and her last known location traced to the Signature Bridge area, questions are being raised over Delhi’s security measures, especially for outstation students.
Last Known Communication: 5:56 AM on July 7
On the morning of July 7, Sneha spoke to her mother at 5:56 AM, informing her that she was heading to Sarai Rohilla railway station with her friend Pituniya. However, after that call, Sneha’s mobile phone went unreachable, and all attempts to contact her failed.
By 8:45 AM the next day, her number was completely switched off. When the anxious family contacted Pituniya, she denied meeting Sneha that day, leaving the family and authorities even more concerned.
Cab Driver’s Testimony: Sneha Was Dropped at Signature Bridge
In a breakthrough, Delhi Police traced Sneha’s last known location through digital mapping. A cab driver confirmed that he had dropped her off near the Signature Bridge in North Delhi. This prompted immediate search operations in and around the bridge area.
However, lack of CCTV coverage in that specific zone has severely hampered investigation efforts.
Search Operations Launched by Police and NDRF
On 9 July, joint search teams from the Delhi Police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) combed the Signature Bridge vicinity and adjoining areas along the Yamuna River, looking for any trace of Sneha.
Despite extensive efforts, no concrete clues have emerged till now. Water searches have also proven inconclusive.
Bank Account Inactive, Room Untouched
The forensic sweep of Sneha’s hostel room revealed that none of her personal belongings were taken, suggesting she had no intention of going away for long.
Additionally, no ATM withdrawals, UPI transactions, or online activity have been recorded on her bank account since the day of her disappearance. Investigators say this raises suspicions of either foul play or a forced disappearance.
Tripura CM Manik Saha Raises Alarm
In a public statement shared on social media, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed deep concern over Sneha’s disappearance. He stated:
“Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, Tripura, has gone missing in Delhi. My office has taken cognizance of the matter and has directed Delhi Police and concerned officials to take urgent and effective steps.”
His strong reaction has intensified pressure on Delhi Police to expedite the investigation.
Family Devastated, Pleads for Action
Sneha’s family, residing in Sabroom, Tripura, is in anguish. Her mother shared that Sneha was a bright, sincere student and had never expressed any distress or discomfort about life in Delhi. Her sudden disappearance has left them completely shaken.
The family has appealed to Delhi authorities and Tripura government to work jointly for a swift breakthrough. They have also approached local MLAs and student unions for support.
Police Probe Three Angles
Delhi Police have confirmed they are exploring the case under three primary possibilities:
-
Abduction – Was Sneha forcibly taken or lured away?
-
Voluntary disappearance – Did she leave on her own due to any unknown personal reason?
-
Accidental incident – Could she have met with an accident near the Signature Bridge or fallen into the Yamuna?
While no ransom call or suspicious contact has surfaced yet, investigators are not ruling out any possibility.
Safety of Outstation Students Under Scanner
Sneha Debnath’s mysterious disappearance has sparked a wider debate on student safety in metro cities, especially for female students from smaller states studying in Delhi.
Despite Delhi being equipped with CCTV surveillance networks, GPS tracing, and security infrastructure, a 19-year-old college girl has gone missing without a trace — a glaring failure in public safety.
Public Awareness, Media Pressure Mounts
Sneha’s photos and disappearance details have gone viral on social media, with hashtags like #FindSnehaDebnath and #JusticeForSneha trending across platforms. Many are comparing this case to earlier high-profile missing cases in Delhi where investigative delays resulted in tragic outcomes.
Conclusion: A Race Against Time
With each passing day, the chances of recovery diminish. The lack of digital or physical leads adds to the complexity. For Sneha’s family, this is a nightmare unfolding in real time. For authorities, it’s a test of responsiveness and investigative will.
The question remains: Can Delhi Police crack this case before it becomes another cold file in India’s long list of unresolved disappearances?
