Malerkotla: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken a unique initiative and started a campaign to get DNA tests done of children begging in the state. Under this campaign, children kidnapped by beggars are being rescued and handed over to their parents.
Speaking about this, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that it is a great tragedy of our country that some people are making children do such inhuman work. Chief Minister Mann had arrived in Amargarh today to inaugurate a new sub-division. On this occasion, when asked by journalists about this campaign, he said that these people kidnap or lure children and then force them to do this work. These people even make many children crippled ruthlessly so that people take pity on them and they get more alms.
He told that this campaign has been started by the government in the whole of Punjab and many children have been rescued so far. Under this campaign, many children have been handed over to their parents, some have been sent to Anganwadi centers and some to schools. The Punjab government has ensured that strict legal action and punishment will be given against those who make children beg, those who traffic them and those who torture them in any way. Along with this, many schemes are also being worked on for the good health and bright future of children.
