It is being told that the BJP high command has made organizational changes and appointed senior leader and Pathankot MLA Ashwini Sharma as the working (executive) head of Punjab BJP. The top leadership of the party has taken this step in view of the inactivity and resignation offer of the current state president Sunil Jakhar.
Let us tell you that Punjab BJP had to face a crushing defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party could not win even one of the 13 seats. Immediately after this result, Sunil Jakhar took moral responsibility and announced his resignation from his post. However, the BJP high command did not accept his resignation with immediate effect. Despite this, Sunil Jakhar is maintaining distance from the activities of the party.
It is worth noting that recently by-elections were announced on four assembly seats of Punjab, but Jakhar was not seen active even during this time. He himself had admitted that he had requested the party leadership to relieve him of the responsibilities of the post.
Now, considering the organizational structure of BJP, making Ashwini Sharma the working chief is being considered a strategic decision. Ashwini Sharma is an experienced leader and has previously worked on many important posts in the party. He is considered an old soldier of BJP and has a good hold on the organization. According to sources, the party high command is now taking every decision seriously in view of building the organization afresh in Punjab and preparing for the 2027 assembly elections. In this sequence, Ashwini Sharma has now been given this important responsibility to re-activate and strengthen the organization.
