This report revealed that the problem of diabetes is increasing rapidly in the country and the world. People suffering from this disease have to take many types of medicines, due to which they remain dependent on medicines. Now the question is whether the risk of diabetes can be reduced by yoga, the answer is yes. Continuous practice of yoga can reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes in vulnerable individuals by 40%. The study report claiming this effect was handed over to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday by Union Science Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, who himself is a renowned diabetes specialist.
This report, supported by evidence-based documentation, has been prepared by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India under the leadership of its former president Dr. S.V. Madhu, who is currently the head of the Department of Endocrinology at the University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi. Its purpose is to find out the role of yoga in the prevention of type-2 diabetes, rather than in its management.
Some effective yoga postures:
Kapalabhati Pranayama – activates the stomach and pancreas
Mandukasana (Frog Pose) – especially useful for diabetes patients
Vajrasana – helps improve digestion after meals
Ardha Matsyendrasana – improves the efficiency of the liver and pancreas
A recent study also found that people who do yoga for at least 30 minutes a day have better insulin sensitivity and balanced blood sugar levels.
Experts’ advice:
Experts also said that along with yoga, it is also important to follow a balanced diet, regular sleep, and a stress-free lifestyle. Also, diabetes patients should consult a doctor or a trained yoga teacher before starting yoga.
