For this festival of love between brothers and sisters to be celebrated on 9 August, sisters have started sending rakhis to their brothers living abroad. Activities have intensified in post offices regarding this festival. The number of rakhis being sent abroad is increasing day by day. In view of this, the postal department has changed the duty timing of employees in Punjab. Now work is going on in the main post offices from 9 am to 7 pm.
Special counters and daily checking in GPO
Special counters have been set up for rakhis in the General Post Office (GPO) and daily checking is being done for immediate processing of the rakhis sent. Special arrangements have been made for countries like America, Canada, Britain, Romania, Dubai so that the rakhis can reach their destination on time. This arrangement is not only strengthening the relationship between brother and sister, but also shows the activeness of the postal department.
Special arrangement of the postal department, duty hours also increased
Keeping in mind Rakshabandhan, the duty time of the employees in the post offices of Punjab has been changed. Now the employees are performing duty from 9 am to 7 pm. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing demand for Rakhi post.
Special drop box for Rakhi, daily checking
A ‘Rakhi drop box’ has been specially installed in the GPO. The rakhis put in it are checked and sorted daily so that they can be sent to the country and abroad at the right time. More than 20 thousand rakhis have been sent
According to the data of the postal department, more than 20 thousand rakhis have been sent so far. About 800 rakhis are being sent to different parts of the country and abroad every day.
Special counters and necessary arrangements for sending abroad
According to Postmaster Sudhir Kumar, special logistics facilities have been made available for countries like America, Canada, Britain, Romania, Dubai etc. 4 special counters have been opened in Chandigarh’s GPO, where the process of sending Rakhi is completed by registering it immediately.
Preparations started a month ago
Sudhir Kumar told that the postal department had started its preparations a month ago. Due to this, now Rakhis are reaching abroad in 7 days, whereas earlier it used to take 10-15 days.
