Amritsar is lagging behind other districts of Punjab by one thing, due to which people are facing a lot of problems. During the tenure of the former Akali-BJP coalition government in Amritsar, an automated driving test track was built for taking driving tests of people on the initiative of the then DC Ravi Bhagat and former DTO Lovejit Kaur Kalsi, but due to there being only one track for the entire district, people coming here are facing a lot of problems whereas there are 4 driving test tracks in Ludhiana and 2 test tracks in Jalandhar. In comparison, even small districts like Kapurthala and Gurdaspur have two driving test tracks each. According to the information, there is a slot for 120 tests every day and many times the work is stalled due to server failure, due to which the number of people coming to give the test doubles the next day and there is a rush. In this regard, Secretary RTA Khushdil Singh Sandhu has appealed to the district administration and higher officials to make two more tracks so that people can get convenience.
Tracks can be made in the areas of SDM offices
At present, the condition of the existing automated driving test track is such that people from Beas, which is about 40 kilometers away from the track, also come to Amritsar to give driving test in the test track adjacent to Rigo Bridge. In such a situation, if the test is not done, then one has to return and come to the track again. If the government makes a track in the area of SDM Baba Bakala, then the people here will not have to come so far. Similarly, if a track is made in the area of Ajnala SDM, then people will get convenience.
Sports stadiums being built in rural areas
Sports stadiums are being built in rural areas by the administration through the ADC (D) office and efforts are being made to attract people towards sports under the government’s war against drugs campaign. In this series, if automated driving test tracks are built along with sports stadiums, then people will get convenience. In any case, there is no extra cost involved in making a track. Tracks can be easily built on any government land including panchayat land etc.
Tests cannot be conducted in the rainy season
Driving tests cannot be conducted on automated driving test tracks because when water accumulates on the track, the sensors installed on the sides of the track start showing fouls when the vehicle passes through the track. In such a situation, during the rainy season, work on the track comes to a halt for 15 to 20 days.
